Top Performing Companies Make Strategy Live
Research has shown that Strategy Execution is the top priority for CEOs.
So how do we make a strategy really come to life and have a realistic chance of success?
A survey of some 1000 companies indicated that no more than 10% were able to put their strategy into practice. Why? Because they had too many strategic objectives. It becomes too difficult to cascade down through your organisation, too complicated to get the message out to people so they know what needs to be achieved. It creates too many projects and too many initiatives that, honestly, are just never going to happen.
As with in life in general, if you have a mound of things to achieve what do you think the chances are of getting all or any of them done properly? Little to zero?
The essence of a good strategy is to have a short list that you and your team can really pay attention to, to provide focus. It becomes easier communicate with everyone, to engage with them and to get buy in.
For me, set no more than five real goals, objectives or whatever you want to call them and then you have a real chance of success. Three is even better!
With Strategy Execution, less really is more!
